ABOUT THE MERTZTOWN TRAIN STATION
Longswamp Township Historical Society (LTHS) acquired the Mertztown Train Station in late April, 2019, from Atlas Minerals & Chemicals, Inc. The vision of the Mertztown Train Station project is to secure, transfer, restore, and adaptively reuse the building to house its collections, provide educational outreach programs, tours, and serve as LTHS' headquarters and a community gathering space.
The station is currently located on the campus of Atlas Minerals & Chemicals, Inc. near the intersection of the railroad and Chestnut Street in Mertztown, Berks County, Pennsylvania (see a map). To ensure its extended life as a community building and one of 35 historic structures within the township, LTHS plans to move the station approximately 6/10 of a mile to the Longswamp Township Community Park at 1112 State Street, Mertztown (see photos). A brief history of the station can be found here.
