SAVE OUR STATION SUPPORTERS

In 2019, Atlas Minerals and Chemicals, Inc. gifted the former Mertztown Train Station to Longswamp Township Historical Society (LTHS). The structure is one of only 35 structures in an overlay historic district that was formed in 2013 by the Longswamp Township Historic Commission. Owing to its importance to the history of the township, county and state, LTHS has launched a campaign to raise the needed funds to restore, relocate, and repurpose the station.
To date, LTHS has raised over half of the needed funds, currently estimated at $402,800, through its core fundraising activities (fundraisers, membership fees, sale of publications and other merchandise, and donations from LTHS members and other community members, past and present) and charitable foundation grant awards.
After standing steadfast along the railway for nearly 150 years, the Mertztown Train Station is showing the effects of age caused by exposure to the elements, general neglect, and the ravages of time and is now in danger of structural failure and collapse.
We invite you to learn more about the Project and how you can help to save an essential piece of Longswamp Township and Pennsylvania railroading history:
Our Case for Support: Help us to save a historic township structure that, more than any other, is a symbol for how trains improved the lives and livelihoods of community members and businesses alike.
Project Plan & Blueprint: A concise overview of project phases, from quote preparation and architectural drawings to framing, insulation and finishes.
